Budget App
Your Financial Operating System for Life
Income → Expenses → Cash Flow → Budget → Assets → Liabilities → Goals → Investments → Insurance → Tax → Family → Business → AI → Actions. One app that unifies every rupee a person, family or business earns, spends, owns, owes and grows — with an AI copilot that turns data into decisions.
To become the Financial Operating System for every individual, family and business in India.
1. Vision & Overview
1.1 Purpose
Most people run their financial life across a dozen disconnected apps — a bank app for balances, a broker for investments, a spreadsheet for budgets, WhatsApp for family money decisions and a CA at tax time. Budget App replaces that with a single operating system: every income, expense, asset, liability, goal, investment, policy and tax record in one secure place, continuously analysed by an AI Financial Copilot that answers the questions people actually ask — "Can I afford a ₹20 lakh car?", "Am I overspending?", "Can I retire at 50?"
1.2 The product in one line
A three-layer platform — a Core Technology Platform (identity, consent, data aggregation, data lake, rules, security), an Intelligence Layer (financial intelligence, prediction, recommendation, health scoring, automation) and an Experience Layer (mobile, web, family, advisor, business apps and a voice/chat copilot) — powered by 12 core financial engines and a library of minis that tailor each engine to a specific life situation.
1.3 What makes it different
It is not a budgeting app. Budgeting is one engine of twelve. The differentiator is the unification (all money in one data lake via Account Aggregator consent), the family dimension (shared budgets, responsibility allocation, a family health score), the business verticals (SME, restaurant, real estate, wealth-management editions) and the AI layer that moves users from seeing data to acting on it: Detect → Analyse → Predict → Recommend → Act → Learn.
1.4 Scope
In scope: the personal & family mobile app, the web dashboard, the advisor/wealth surface, the business edition, the admin & ops console, all 12 core engines with their minis, the AI copilot, alerts & notifications, Account Aggregator and UPI integrations, the security & compliance posture, and the monetization framework.
Phased: the platform is deliberately modular — see the roadmap (§18). Phase 1 ships the foundation plus the money engines; intelligence, family and verticals follow.
2. User Personas
| Persona | Description | Primary goals |
|---|---|---|
| Individual | Salaried or self-employed; wants control of money. | See everything in one place, stop overspending, hit goals, grow wealth. |
| Family CFO | The person who runs the household's money. | Shared budgets, who-pays-what, kids' financial literacy, family health score. |
| Business owner | SME, freelancer, restaurant, startup. | P&L, cash flow, GST/TDS, payroll, receivables, business + personal in one view. |
| Advisor / Wealth manager | Serves multiple clients & families. | Client book, portfolios, PMS, rebalancing, reporting, family office. |
| Platform admin | Operates Budget App. | Users, engines, integrations, alerts, compliance, monetization, analytics. |
3. Platform Architecture — Three Layers
3.1 Core Technology Platform
The foundation every engine sits on: Identity Engine (KYC, login, biometric, family identity); Consent Engine (permissions, consent tracking, revoke access); Data Aggregation Engine (banks, cards, loans, investments, insurance, pensions via Account Aggregator); Financial Data Lake (a unified, secure financial record); Transaction Engine (ingestion, categorisation, enrichment, tagging); AI/ML Engine (prediction, classification, recommendation); Rules Engine (policies, budgets, thresholds, automated actions); Analytics Engine (dashboards, trends, ratios, forecasts); Notification Engine; API & Integration Engine; Security Engine (encryption, access control, audit trail, fraud detection); Financial Master Data; Compliance Engine (RBI, SEBI, IRDAI, IT rules, data privacy); and an Audit & Monitoring Engine.
3.2 Intelligence Layer
What turns records into advice: the Financial Intelligence Engine (AI copilot, Q&A, insights), the Prediction Engine (cash flow, expenses, goals, net worth), the Recommendation Engine (actionable suggestions to save, invest, protect, repay), the Financial Health Engine (a 0–100 scorecard), the Financial Discipline Engine (habits, streaks, challenges, behaviour score) and the Automation Engine (Detect → Analyse → Predict → Recommend → Act → Learn).
3.3 Experience Layer
How people meet the product: the Mobile App (personal & family), the Web App (dashboard & advanced analytics), the Family App (shared finances & collaboration), the Advisor / Wealth App (advisors, RM, PMS, family office), the Business App (SME, startup, freelancer, enterprise), the Partner & API Platform (open APIs for ecosystem partners) and the Voice / Chat Copilot.
4. Core Financial Engines
Twelve engines make up the product surface. Each engine ships with minis — pre-configured variants for a specific person, life stage or use case — so the same engine serves a student, a young family and a retiree without a redesign.

5. Budget, Income & Expense Engines
The everyday core. Budget supports income, expense and category budgets, individual and family budgets, zero-based budgeting, goal-linked budgets and one-off event/lifestyle budgets — each with rollover rules and overspend thresholds that fire alerts. Income handles every earning type including irregular and multiple incomes, forecasts next month's inflow and computes an income stability score. Expense auto-categorises every transaction from the aggregated feed, detects recurring payments and subscriptions, splits and allocates shared spends, separates essential vs discretionary, forecasts month-end spend and tags tax-deductible items for the Tax engine. 6. Assets, Liabilities & Goals
Assets consolidates bank balances, investments, gold, real estate, vehicles, business stakes and retirement corpus into a single valuation with allocation, diversification, liquidity and performance views. Liabilities tracks every loan, EMI and card with interest paid, debt-to-income ratio, prepayment analysis (how much interest a ₹1 lakh prepayment saves) and a payoff plan. Together they produce a live net worth. Goals converts intentions into plans: target cost, time, required monthly saving, the current gap, a probability of achievement, milestones and goal-based investment recommendations.
7. Investment, Wealth & Real Estate
Investment aggregates portfolios across MF, equity, ETF, bonds, SIPs, NPS, PPF, EPF and gold, profiles risk, computes XIRR/CAGR, tracks SIP/STP/SWP, flags rebalancing and models tax-aware exits. Wealth layers on projection, tax optimisation, estate & succession planning and advisor collaboration for HNI/family-office users. Real Estate treats property as a first-class asset — registry, valuation & appreciation, rental yield and cash flow, mortgage & expenses, ROI, and the decisions that matter: buy vs rent, sell vs hold.
8. Insurance, Tax & Credit
Insurance stores every policy, computes coverage gap against the family's real protection need, alerts on premiums and renewals, compares and optimises cover and tracks claims. Tax estimates liability under both regimes, surfaces tax-saving opportunities, tracks capital gains and TDS, keeps a tax calendar with documents and produces reports for the CA. Credit monitors the credit score, analyses utilisation and risk, computes EMI capacity and loan eligibility and gives a concrete credit improvement plan.
9. Family Financial Operating System
Money is rarely individual. The Family OS provides a family dashboard (all finances in one view), shared budgets (plan & track together), child profiles (teach, track, guide), responsibility allocation (who pays what), a family health score, family goals, a financial calendar (events, bills, goals) and alerts & collaboration so everyone stays in sync. Permissions are granular — a spouse can see everything, a teenager only their own wallet and goals.
10. AI Financial Copilot
The copilot is the front door to the intelligence layer. It answers natural questions grounded in the user's own data — "Can I afford a ₹20 lakh car?", "Can I buy a house?", "How much should I save?", "Can I retire at 50?", "Where am I overspending?", "Should I prepay my loan?", "How much SIP should I start?", "How much insurance do I need?" — and returns a reasoned answer with the numbers behind it plus a recommended action the user can execute in one tap. It runs the automation loop: Detect → Analyse → Predict → Recommend → Act → Learn, and is available as chat and voice.
Guardrails. The copilot is an information and planning assistant, not a registered investment adviser. Recommendations are educational, cite the data behind them, and regulated actions (buying a product, executing a trade) are routed to a licensed partner with explicit consent.
11. Vertical Engines — Business & Industry
| Vertical | Capability |
|---|---|
| Food Industry Budget Engine | Revenue, food & beverage cost, labour cost, rent, utilities, inventory, wastage, recipe costing, menu engineering, vendor management, daily sales, gross margin, EBITDA, cash flow. Minis: restaurant, cafe, hotel, cloud kitchen, bakery, catering, food truck, chef. |
| Business Budget Engine | P&L, cash flow, balance sheet, forecasting, expense budgeting, payroll, inventory, receivables, payables, working capital, tax, business loans, capex, profitability. Minis: SME, startup, freelancer, retail, professional services, manufacturing, trading, e-commerce, education, healthcare, logistics. |
| PMS & Wealth Management | Portfolio monitoring, performance, analytics, risk management, reporting, rebalancing, client onboarding, advisory, family-office services. |
| Real Estate & Assets | Property discovery, valuation, due diligence, investment analysis, rental management, asset tracking, document vault, marketplace, project analytics, ROI calculator. |
12. Alert & Notification Engine
| Class | Examples |
|---|---|
| Critical | Cash shortage · EMI failure risk · insurance lapse · excess debt |
| Warning | Budget overspending · goal behind schedule · high credit utilisation |
| Opportunity | Extra cash available · investment opportunity · tax-saving opportunity · prepayment opportunity |
| Information | Salary received · SIP completed · bill due · investment maturity |
Alerts are generated by the Rules Engine against thresholds the user (or admin) configures, delivered via push, in-app, email and WhatsApp, and every alert carries a recommended action.
13. Key Integrations
Account Aggregator (AA) for consented data from banks, NBFCs and investments; UPI & payments (cards, wallets, gateways); insurance (life, health, general, NPS); finance & events (bills, goals, market data); and Aadhaar/e-KYC plus Income Tax & GST (future) for tax automation. Every integration is consent-first and revocable from the Consent Engine.
14. Security & Trust
End-to-end encryption
TLS in transit, AES-256 at rest, encrypted document vault, tokenised account references.
Multi-factor auth
OTP, biometric unlock, device binding, session & jailbreak checks.
Consent-driven data

Regulator-aligned
RBI / SEBI / IRDAI-aligned controls; audit trail on every access.
Privacy by design
Data minimisation, DPDP-aligned rights, no selling of personal data.
15. Compliance
The Compliance Engine encodes the rules the product must live inside: RBI (Account Aggregator framework, data localisation), SEBI (investment advice boundaries, RIA/distributor separation), IRDAI (insurance distribution), Income Tax rules for reporting, and India's DPDP data-privacy obligations — consent, purpose limitation, retention, erasure and breach reporting. Advisory features are clearly labelled educational unless delivered through a licensed entity; execution is routed to regulated partners.
